These are NMEA 2000 fitting end caps.
Just as with all electrical equipment mixing equipment with salt water, including salt water in vapour format is a very bad idea.
Leaving open connections on your marine NMEA 2000 backbone will leave them open to corrosion and potential failure.
Its is always a very good idea to have some of these on the boat ready to use when you fit a new NMEA device or fitting.
They just screw on to seal the open end.
